There have been many changes in the characteristics of the Syrian economy ever since the implementation of the economic reforms that started at the turn of the millennium. Several legislations were put in place aiming at creating an efficient investment environment. Contribution of the private sector to the GDP has also significantly increased from a mere 10% in 2001 to over 60% by 2008 with anticipations for further increases in the coming years.
The aforementioned changes have resulted in substantial increases in power consumption that is forecasted to rise yearly by 10%. Hence, the introduction of new reliable, efficient and environmental friendly power resources became among the government top priorities in order to accommodate the required needs for growth. Increasing the efficiency of the existing power plants is also going to be essential for providing rapid solutions to these challenges.
Opportunities to invest in energy is currently open more than any time before to the private sector that is invited by the government to partner in different power related projects. Such projects will introduce new insights and opportunities to this market that had been solely dependent on public entities in the past in terms of finance as well as management.
Being held under the patronage of H.E. the Minister of Electricity, SYRPOWER 2011 will provide a unique opportunity for exhibitors to examine these changes and identify possible opportunities by introducing them to a finely selected specialized audience that includes; senior government officials, regional industrialists, businessmen, experts, Technical personnel, academics and diplomats.
